Italy Gap Year Program

The MTGI Gap Year Program in Italy is based in Siena, a small medieval city in the center of Tuscany. Siena is considered "the cradle of the Italian language" and the heartland of the Italian of Dante, and is an ideal location for you to learn Italian (or strengthen your existing skills), engage in meaningful community service, and immerse yourself in Italian life and culture.

MTGI-Italy provides the opportunity to experience social service in a country whose complicated political, economic, and social realities rarely permit the foreigner access to become an active part of society. Through a unique partnership with Siena Italian Studies, MTGI offers gappers opportunities to:

• Work on an organic farm and restaurant
• Provide immigrant and refugee assistance
• Help elementary school children learn English
• Assist at a medicine clinic

You’ll also have time to walk through the Tuscan countryside from one unspoiled small town to the next; visit farms that produce wine, olive oil, and pecorino cheese; relax in one of the region's many natural hot springs; or experience traditional Tuscan festivals such as Carnevale in Foiano della Chiana. The program includes 8-10 excursions such as these.
